Chapter Five: Heal Events

What If Healing the Past Is Only Half the Story?

Chapter Five: Heal Events

What If Healing the Past Is Only Half the Story?

Something changed in Chapter Five.

Until now, our founding Energy Wisdom Pathway group has been learning the foundations.

How to notice energy.

How to allow it to flow.

How to see beyond the story.

How to receive and nourish the energy system.

But Chapter Five marked the beginning of something new.

Act Two

This is where we began taking everything we've learned and asking:

What Can We Actually Do With It?

And the answer, it turns out, is rather exciting.

We can take it into life.

Because life happens through events.

A conversation.

A meeting.

A holiday.

An argument.

An interview.

A disappointment.

A moment of extraordinary joy.

Every experience has the potential to change us.

And sometimes, long after an event itself has ended...
the energy continues to echo.

Some Events Continue To Echo

I love the word echo.

It feels so much gentler than many of the words we traditionally use when talking about our past.

Because we've all experienced it.

Something somebody said years ago suddenly pops into your head.

A familiar situation creates a surprisingly strong reaction.

You find yourself replaying an old conversation.

Or perhaps you notice yourself avoiding something because of what happened last time.

The event may be over.

But something within us is still responding to it.

During one of our sessions, a participant worked with a comment someone had made about her business seven or eight years earlier.

Seven or eight years!

Yet she could see how that one event had continued influencing her decisions.

She didn't need to spend hours analysing why.

She simply noticed where the energy of that event was present now...
and allowed it to soften and flow.

That's an important distinction for me.

We're not trying to rewrite history.

We're changing our energetic relationship with the experience.

And when the energy changes, something else often becomes possible.

We Are More Than The Difficult Things That Happened To Us

One of my favourite exercises in this chapter involved looking at our lives from the perspective of the Awareness Self.

We began by noticing difficult or traumatic events.

But then we expanded the picture.

Guiding Star Events.

Missing Events.

Unknowable Events.

Star Events.

And suddenly the landscape looked very different.

One participant described seeing her life almost like a spine.

The events branched away from it...
but she remained.

Another described all the different events appearing almost like fireworks.

What struck me was how easily difficult events can become the landmarks around which we tell the story of our lives.

Yet they are only part of the matrix.

There were moments of courage too.

Love.

Connection.

Discovery.

Things we survived.

Things we created.

Things that changed us beautifully.

Things we may not even understand yet.

When we expand the matrix, we expand the story of who we think we are.

That felt important.

Complete what echoes. Create what comes next. Evolve through experience.

Sometimes Healing Reveals Something Unexpected

There was another moment in the evening group that stayed with me.

One participant worked with an event involving her father's response to an important decision she'd made many years earlier.

There was hurt there.

And a familiar pattern of anticipating his disapproval.

As she worked with the energy, something began to change.

She could see his response differently.

But then we noticed something else within the event.

She had trusted herself.

That had been there all along.

Hidden beneath the emotional disturbance was this wonderful energy of self-trust.

And that made me think differently about healing events.

Perhaps healing isn't always about getting rid of something.

Sometimes, when the disturbance quietens, we finally get to discover what else the experience contains.

Strength.

Courage.

Wisdom.

Compassion.

Self-trust.

Perhaps there is more waiting for us on the other side of an old event than simply feeling better about it.

But Healing Is Only Half The Story

This was probably my biggest realisation from Chapter Five.

A chapter called Heal Events sounds as though it should be about the past.

But I'm no longer sure that's its most important purpose.

Because if events change and evolve our energy system...
why would we only work with the events that have already happened?

Why not create new ones?

A beautiful conversation.

A walk somewhere extraordinary.

Trying something you've always wanted to do.

Connecting with someone.

Going somewhere new.

Laughing until your stomach hurts.

Standing somewhere in nature and allowing yourself to experience the moment fully.

These aren't simply nice things to do.

They are energy events too.

So during the sessions I began encouraging everyone to become curious about something else:

Where's the Star Event in this?

Where's the Star Event at the party?

At the networking meeting?

On the walk?

On the holiday?

In an ordinary Tuesday afternoon?

Don't just wait for wonderful experiences to happen.

Go looking for them.

Create some on purpose.

Become A Collector Of Good Moments

I think this might be one of my favourite invitations from the entire Pathway so far.

At the end of the day, ask yourself:

What happened today that I'd like my energy system to remember?

It doesn't need to be life-changing.

Perhaps somebody made you laugh.

You noticed an incredible sky.

Someone said something kind.

You had a lovely conversation.

Your favourite song came on at exactly the right moment.

You drank your coffee outside in the sunshine.

A tiny moment in an otherwise completely ordinary day.

We can become incredibly skilled at collecting evidence of what went wrong.

Perhaps we could become equally skilled at collecting what went right.

Not by pretending the difficult things don't happen.

But by giving the good moments their rightful place in our experience too.

The Practitioners Are Changing Too

Something else became very noticeable during these sessions.

People are becoming less reliant on the steps.

Less concerned about saying the right thing.

Less inclined to analyse everything.

And much more willing to notice what's actually happening.

Someone needs to move?

Move.

A yawn comes?

Yawn.

Something changes?

Follow it.

The process is becoming more intuitive.

At one point I found myself saying:

Think energy. Think lightning.

Because energy doesn't necessarily need twenty minutes of explanation.

Sometimes it changes in a moment.

I'm watching the group move from learning a technique towards developing a relationship with energy itself.

And that is exactly what I hoped would happen when I decided to teach EMO this way.

What I've Learned as a Teacher

Chapter Four surprised me because I realised a chapter I had always thought was about energy shields was really about receiving.

Chapter Five has done it again.

I thought Heal Events was about healing events.

It is.

But that's not the whole chapter.

I now think it is really about creation.

Yes, we can tidy the events that continue to echo.

We can allow old energy movements to complete.

We can change our relationship with experiences that have followed us for years.

But surely our purpose isn't to spend the rest of our lives endlessly tidying the past.

Our purpose is evolution.

And events are one of the ways we evolve.

We can create experiences.

Seek beauty.

Do things that expand us.

Create something today that wasn't there yesterday.

Become collectors of good moments.

Perhaps the question isn't only:

"What from my past needs healing?"

Perhaps it's also:

"What would I love to experience next?"

Life isn't only shaped by the events that happen to us.

It's also shaped by the events we choose to create.

Complete what echoes.

Create what comes next.

Evolve through experience.

And with that...

Act Two of the Energy Wisdom Pathway has begun.
